Brazil Hub: the conquest of an area for civil society
 
A historic mobilization at the 25th UN Climate Conference, began in December 2 until December 15, in Madrid, Spain. The iCS team fought for a democratic and inclusive area, which has received hundreds of private sector representatives, scientists, members of congress, subnational governments, press, negotiators and observers from other countries that have contributed to the pluralitty of discussions at this conference. Purpose of the grant: The project will develop a mobilization event oriented to inform locals on climate change impacts and the protection of the Pirajussara river, one of the main tributaries of the Pinheiros river, in São Paulo. Artists will bring the community along to promote sustainability, entrepreneurship and re-qualifying the urban space and reducing the social and environmental vulnerability of the community.

Purpose of the grant: To address the problem of high subsidies for fossil fuels in Brazil, the lack of transparency and the lack of assessment of their impacts on tax collection, production, job creation and the environment. Through research, public debate, and stakeholder engagement, the project will contribute to the debate on fossil fuel subsidies by engaging the Congress and the Accounts' Court on the theme, as a problem to be measured, evaluated, and reformed.

Purpose of the grant: The project aims to support hackers from Hacking Rio, the largest hackathon in Latin America, to develop technological solutions for climate and sustainability challenges. Global Shapers, in partnership with Climathon Brasil, will be responsible for managing and supporting the cluster, helping to define challenges and leading expert mentors, with the support of iCS, OceanPact, Neoenergia and Climate Ventures.

ISS - Instituto Saúde e Sustentabilidade

Purpose of the grant: To qualify the debate at the National Congress about the importance of an Air Quality National Policy, from the perspective of health and climate. ISS will support the debates of the Environmental Caucus and WHO standards. ISS will also work in São Paulo city to support the implementation of its Climate Law by highlighting the links between vehicle pollution, air quality and health.

The project will select five proposals for investigative reporting on urban mobility. The winners get a R$ 5,000 grant and mentoring from Agencia Pública to produce the report.

We are going to launch a call to select two reports to be published in climate emergency periphery newsrooms during the follow up to COP.
