Purpose of the grant: To provide legal support to the development and monitoring of administrative actions and applications in order to obtain data and to generate actions by public agencies in response to the alerts of illegal deforestation produced by MapBiomas. It is hoped to increase the effectiveness and the legal accountability of the offenders who are responsible for the deforested areas.

Duration: 12 months
Portfolio: Land Use
Purpose of the grant: To guarantee that all the 8,000 alerts validated by the MapBiomas Alert Platform in the state of Mato Grosso, up to December 2020, have some action of accountability taken by the agencies that are responsible for the environmental control. Mato Grosso has one of the highest deforestation rates in the Amazon, where the destruction of the forest is driven overwhelmingly by illegal practices.

Purpose of the grant: The objective of this grant is to design a podcast project to investigate how the industrial, land and farming lobbies govern the political and economic forces that prevent Brazil from changing old practices and from modernizing its economy in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to protect its citizens from the impacts of climate change.
